Sleight of Hand II: A National Juried Contemporary Craft Show

Craft-making is too often pigeon-holed into traditional definitions of basic utilitarian objects in clay, glass, wood, or metal. In reality, most craft-makers are not unlike fine artists in many respects. They push new concepts, introduce new materials and techniques, expand old techniques and use traditional materials in new ways.

This exhibition will feature works chosen by a selected panel of jurors.
Award recipients will receive cash prices and gift certificates from Plaza Artist Materials www.plazaart.com

“Born and raised in Miami, Florida, I currently live in Brooklyn, NY. Drawing, painting, printmaking, textile works, video and photography are some of the mediums that I work in and I'm always in the process of learning something new. If you're interested in purchasing art, please look at the "For Sale/ETSY" section, or contact me if you'd like to commission any work.

I always like to hear from folks and love to trade things in the mail. If you wildcraft medicinal plants or seaweeds, have some kefir grains to spare (or any other thing that you might worth trading), please get in touch! Also, if you happen to know of a beekeeper in the NYC area that might be interested in having an apprentice, I'd love to meet someone I could learn from.”

P.S. I'm currently playing with a new band called forgetters and you can read more about what we're up to via our blog: http://www.forgetters.blogspot.com/
Also, please send all emails concerning forgetters to: forgetters@gmail.com

Free Film Showing and Potluck

The Richmond BJJ Academy and The Lucent Phoenix Resource Center Presents:
Beautiful Boxer
Richmond BJJ Academy, will be performing the Muay Thai demonstration before the film.

Film info:
"Based on the true story of Thailand's famed trans-gender kickboxer, Beautiful Boxer is a poignant action drama that punches straight into the heart and mind of a boy who fights like a man so he can become a woman.

Believing he's a girl trapped in a boy's body since childhood, Parinya Charoenphol (affectionately known as Nong Toom in Thailand) sets out to master the most masculine and lethal sport of Muay Thai (Thai boxing) to earn a living and to achieve his ultimate goal of total femininity. Touching, funny and packed with breathtaking Thai kickboxing sequences, Beautiful Boxer traces Nong Toom's childhood, teenage life as a traveling monk and grueling days in boxing camps. Shot in 9 provinces across Thailand and in Tokyo, the film also features a series of explosive matches where Nong Toom knocks out most of his opponents in Thailand and Japan."
